A useful cost guide

Compare the work, not just the number.

There is no honest Halifax-wide price that fits every tree. Access, risk, equipment, cleanup and the exact scope can change the work substantially.

Why online prices mislead

The same tree can mean very different work on two properties.

A provider needs to understand the tree, the targets below it, the access route and the required finish. A quick number without that context is not a quote and should not be treated as one.

What can change the scope

01

Tree and site

Size, condition, lean, branching, nearby structures, fences, gardens, slopes and the consequences of a limb or trunk landing.

02

Access and equipment

Distance from a driveway, gate width, ground conditions, lifting or climbing needs and protection for the property.

03

Utilities and permissions

Power lines, underground services, public land, construction conditions, watercourses, wetlands or habitat concerns can require additional planning.

04

Finish and disposal

Cut lengths, chipping, hauling, stump grinding, surface repair, raking and whether wood or chips stay on site.

Ask for this in writingWhy it matters
Exact tree and exact work“Remove the tree” can mean different cuts, sections or exclusions.
Access, equipment and protectionYou can compare how the property, lawn, structures and neighbours will be protected.
Wood, brush, chips and stumpDisposal, stacking, hauling and grinding are separate parts of the finish.
Utilities, permissions and timingClarifies who coordinates locates, public-tree permissions or weather changes.
Taxes and payment termsAvoids comparing a partial number with an all-in scope.

Questions worth asking before choosing

  • What part of the work is not included?
  • What happens if weather or site conditions change the plan?
  • What insurance and relevant credentials can I verify directly?
  • Who will contact the utility or municipality if that is needed?
  • What will the property look like when the crew leaves?

For a shortlist, use the Halifax company directory, then confirm service area and availability with each provider.
